Iris - "Pământul îl cuprind" ("I Comprehend the Earth") Music by: Adrian Ilie Lyrics by: Adrian Ilie Song released on: Romanian National Radio Recording, 1981 Video recorded at: "Rock '92" International Festival, Bucharest, Arenele Romane, September 12th 1992 Performed by: Cristian Minculescu - lead vocals, Nelu Dumitrescu - drums, Doru Borobeică - bass guitar, Valter Popa - lead and rhythm guitar This 1981 song belonging to the Romanian hard rock band Iris is one of the first speed metal songs in Romania (maybe the first), but in 1981 at the Romanian National Radio Studios it wasn't recorded as a speed metal song, because of the technical equipment of that time. "I Comprehend the Earth" is one of the songs that were written by guitarist Adrian Ilie in 1980, along with "Cine mă strigă în noapte?" ("Who's Calling Me in the Night?"), "Valuri" ("Waves"), "Călătorul" ("The Traveller") and "Speranţa" ("The Hope"). This song does not appear in the group's discography as a studio version, only as a live version on the 1997 anniversary disc "Iris 20 Years". Due to its dynamism, the group decided to open many of the concerts with this song, including the anniversary shows "Iris 20 Years" (in 1997) and "Iris 30 Years - Those Who Will Be" (in 2007). Here we have a live performance of "I Comprehend the Earth", recorded at the "Rock '92" International Festival, where Iris performed besides Ian Gillan and Uriah Heep. At this festival Iris had the greatest opening act for a Romanian artist or band, ex-Purple's vocalist Ian Gillan singing before them.
